A programme designed to teach tamariki the fundamentals of Our Hauora. This in depth programme ensures children will come away with their own simple toolbox of skills.
Over these five days each child will be the hero of their own story, they will develop and implement a toolbox of skills to help with resilience, self awareness, social and emotional intelligence. Our mindfulness activities stimulate creativity and allow each Hauora Hero to better understand themselves, what makes them unique, their strengths... Their superpowers!
Tamariki need to learn their superpowers and create their own toolbox when they are young, to support them with challenges in their everyday life and allow them to live happy and healthy lives.
Hauora Heroes can choose which days they come for, each day is created so that tamariki can come for one, two, or the whole five days!
Hauora Heroes is for tamariki aged 7-12 years, wanting to learn their superpowers, make new friendships with themselves and others, get involved in fun activities and learn how to care for their mind and body.
“One of the primary ironies of modern education is that we ask students to ‘pay attention’ dozens of times a day, yet we never teach them how" - Saltzman, 2011
We're located at the Phillipstown Community Hub on 39 Nursery Road.
Each day we focus on different dimensions of our hauora/well-being.
If your Hauora Hero has joined us over previous school holidays, this layout will stay the same however themes and activities will change each time.
Fun and enjoyment are at the forefront of these games and activities:
Developing social skills, interaction with others, gardening and compassion.
Communicating thoughts and feelings, self awareness and self regulation, letting go of limiting beliefs and positive self talk.
Cooking/baking, breathing consciously, movement- Tamai Sports, stretching and Rainbow Kids Yoga, designing toolboxes.
Appreciating themselves and nature, goals for 2022, gardening, gratitude, designing toolboxes.
A morning of fun, kindness and celebrations before we prepare for our festival! This mini festival will be just before pick up time on the last day. Your Hauora Hero will share their superpowers and toolbox of skills that they have learnt (days range per child) at Hauora Heroes to their whānau and/or community. If children come as a one off for the day on Friday, they will be able to make a toolbox in the morning so they have one too.
Daily movement, exploring nature, making kai, creating, conscious breathing and gratitude.
Each day is specific to each dimension of Hauora, these activities can range from:
