Ella’s journal story

What is a negative thought? Do you want more or less of them?

What about all the thoughts you have in a day? How many of those are negative?

What if you had 60,000 thoughts in one day, and 80% were negative or repeated thoughts? Would you change that if you could?

I was faced with intrusive thoughts. On the outside I looked confident (I think!?) but on the inside, I was facing years of negative beliefs about who I was and what I was capable of . . . this women trying to teach people how to live each day with purpose and passion was not who I thought I could be.

When I first started my business journey; I was learning alot, challenging myself and out of my comfort zone most days. Striving for my goals and the vision that I had created for myself.

On days that I was in front of the camera, putting myself out there - I was faced with intrusive thoughts. On the outside I looked confident (I think!?) but on the inside, I was really working hard on my mindset. I was faced with limiting beliefs (I'm not good enough, I'm not smart enough), often worried about what other people thought of me and the content I was putting out to the world.

Before live videos, zoom calls, meetings or phone calls, my inner critic mindset was holding me back and keeping me in my comfort zone. My beliefs and stories that I had made up about myself growing up were front of my mind.

My business mentor kept reminding me to 'clear my fears', and it was then that I realised the true power of journaling. Not only free writing that I had done for years, brain dumps for clarity, gratitude writing for inner happiness… but the power of other mindset journaling.

Before these events I began to clear my fears, shift my mindset and notice what thoughts were going on by simply writing them down.

It was hard sometimes to stop and actually do this. To make time for this. To be confronted with these thoughts.

Sometimes I thought that I had worked on my limiting beliefs and was so frustrated that they were still coming up regularly in all sorts of directions in my life. It was difficult to practise shifting my mindset because those beliefs have carved some strong pathways in my brain for so long and felt so real.

Now I am self-aware of these thoughts and how they make me feel, and if they do pop up now, I can easily notice and shift them. I facilitate zoom calls (my biggest fear over a year ago) and instead of being nervous, I’m excited to share these tools with people. I am more present in the moment.

I am far more confident and conscious of my thoughts. I care less about what people think and know that people will always judge each other. There is so much freedom in caring less about what others think and to have the power in backing myself completely.
